TRIATHLON’S VR-EXPERIENCE PULLS IN THE CROWD AT TURKU’S TRAVEL FAIR
Gaining in popularity since last year, Challenge Turku kaupunkitriathlon is one of Turku’s top tourism projects. The fourth instalment of the triathlon races will be held again in August along the River Aura, the routes and landscape of which have drawn great praise from the athletes.
At the travel fair 18th – 21st January 2018, visitors were able to step inside the 2017 competition atmosphere with the VR experience produced by 360Mediahouse.
− “Virtual reality is a stunning way to showcase the event, particularly to those who have never encountered something like this before,” says Challenge Turku’s director Heikki Jaatinen.
− “We filmed the event during the Saturday afternoon, after which we edited with background music, and already the next morning the best bits of the competition were there to be watched on the VR-glasses at the centre of the race,” says 360Mediahouse CEO Henrik Helin ,describing his team’s quick work.
The inspiration for the Turku Challenge event came to the triathlon enthusiast Jaatinen a few years ago during a bike ride. Today, the event is part of the international Challenge Family series. At the event in Turku last year there were 800 participants representing 20 different nationalities.
In Turku on the second day the super-fit athletes took part in the half-triathlon, swimming 1.9 kilometres in the river, and biking for about 90 kilometres before running a half-marathon.
The Challenge Turku organisation has two fulltime employees and more than 400 volunteers who participate in making the event a reality.
